3 Scientific Reasons Not to Shun Eggs For the Rest of Your Life

Just like butter, eggs have been considered as bad for one’s health for the past decades. Frequent consumption of eggs can supposedly increase one’s risk of heart disease. It turns out that those so-called nutritional expects were actually wrong! In fact, a 2013 study concluded that there was actually no link between consumption of one egg per day to increased risk of stroke and coronary disease.

So before you start arguing that eggs are okay as long as you discard the whites and just consume the yolks, here are 3 reasons (backed by science!) why you should not shun eggs for the rest of your life!

1. Eggs help raise good cholesterol, that is they help convert small, dense (and bad!) cholesterol to large (and neutral) LDLs.

2. Eggs have high levels of choline, a part of the B-complex vitamins in which low levels has been implicated in liver problems, neurological conditions, and cardiovascular disease. In addition, pregnant women are encouraged to increase their choline levels as it has been shown to avoid neural tube defects among newborns.

3. Egg yolks have high levels of antioxidants — lutein and zeaxanthin to be specific. Both antioxidants have been shown to play a role in the prevention of cataracts, macular degeneration, and other conditions associated with vision loss.

Preparing for Your Acupuncture at the Washington Street Wellness Center

Acupuncture has been used as a healing practice for thousands of years, particularly in China and its neighboring Asian countries. Nowadays, the practice is already a part of complementary and alternative medicine worldwide.

At the Washington Street Wellness Center, the Five Element Acupuncture is one of our sought-after services due to its proven effectiveness and rare adverse effects. If you’re about to have acupuncture here at our practice, we encourage you prepare for it through the following:

  • Eat a light meal an hour or two before your acupuncture appointment.
  • Limit or avoid foods and drinks that contain caffeine and alcohol before your appointment.
  • Take any relevant medical notes with you during the appointment such as prescriptions and laboratory or diagnostic results.
  • Wear loose fitting clothes as most of the acupuncture points are situated between the elbows and wrists as well as between the knees and ankles. Women are discouraged from wearing one-piece dresses.
  • Make sure that you are well-hydrated before the procedure. Your body will respond well to acupuncture if it’s well-hydrated.
  • Avoid overexertion before your acupuncture appointment.
